Englisches Kino

sounds difficult, but actually it is just a matter of getting used to. On September 6th, 2001, the Marianum started to realize the idea of showing an English, an American or an Australian film in the original version once a month. The variety ranges from "Romeo and Juliet" to "Dances with Wolves", from "Clueless" to "Michelangelo", from "Cleopatra" to "The Name of the Rose", from "Lord of the Flies" to "A Man for All Seasons", to give just a few examples.

The films will be shown on every first Thursday of a month on the large screen in the assembly hall of the Marianum so that the effect is almost the same as in a cinema. There are, however, three major differences:

  • access is limited to the school community,

  • watching this film does not cost anything,

  • the assembly hall will not be cleaned after the performance, so you are asked not to bring food or beverages.

By the way, there is no teaching included - this is just a possibility to have fun together and improve the knowledge of English in a leisurely way.

For example: The oddest couple ever unleashed!

Tom Hanks stars as Scott Turner, a meticulously groomed, excruciatingly well-organized detective who works in a small California coastal town. When local “character” John McIntyre is murdered by drug smugglers, the only witness to the crime is McIntyre’s slobbery, smelly junkyard dog named Hooch. Turner despises dogs in general und Hooch in particular, but he, nevertheless, is compelled to put the cantankerous dog up as his house guest. Not exactly man’s best friend, Hooch soon turns the detective’s neat life upside down, wrecking Turner’s home, career and budding romance. It is an hilarious non-stop test of wills between this mismatched duo, leading finally to a very special friendship.

The film offers an abundance of laughs and thrills and is just - fun!
